Tom Lorenz has served the City of Glendale for 33 years and is a 30 year law enforcement veteran. In January of 2011, while serving as the Adjutant to the Chief of Police, he was moved into a dual role as the Public Information Officer for the City of Glendale to support all City Departments in communications. In August of 2014, Tom was appointed Director of Communications & Community Relations. Tom oversees the City’s community outreach through the Creative Media and Digital Innovation sections that include the Emmy award-winning GTV6, winner of seven Emmy’s.  Through collaborative efforts, Tom and his staff have moved towards greater community partnerships and civic engagement through increased information accessibility, events, and digital presence across many platforms.

Tom is recognized as a Drug Recognition Expert and currently speaks for several state and federal agencies throughout the United States on the topics of Major Narcotic Violators, Ethics and Unit Integrity, Search Warrant Preparation and Tactics, and Drug Abuse Recognition. In Tom’s current field, he speaks on Conflict Resolution, Media Mitigation, Social Media Mitigation, Crisis Communication, and E-Hostility.

During his career, he served as a Narcotics Detective and Supervisor. He has been assigned to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency and L.A. IMPACT as a Task Force Officer. He has investigated over 1,000 cases from street dealers to large scale Mexican, Colombian and European distribution organizations. In 2004, he was named the Narcotic Officer of the Year by the California Narcotic Officers’ Association. He has also served as a SWAT Supervisor, Community Policing Supervisor and Sexual / Domestic Assaults Supervisor during his tour with the Glendale Police Department.  This background in critical operations helped Tom develop tactical communication strategies and assisted in the mitigation of significant events concerning law enforcement, local government and elected officials.

Tom is an Adjunct at Glendale Community College and teaches classes in Administration of Justice. Tom is married to his wife Christina and has six children.
